LuxLeaks appeal trial has begun
Today the LuxLeaks case turns a new page. The whistleblowers Antoine Deltour and Raphaël Halet as well as journalist Edouard Perrin will stand in an appeal trial in Luxembourg.
The LuxLeaks case is one of the freshest examples that EU-wide whistleblower protection is needed. Transparency International (TI) released today an appeal to exonerate the whistleblowers concerned. Anja Osterhaus, programme manager at TI said that “It is unacceptable that people who have the courage to protect the European public interest face prosecution and even conviction.”

Halet and Deltour exposed controversial tax deals between the authorities in Luxembourg and well-known multinationals such as IKEA and Amazon.
The appeal trial will continue next week, with an outcome predicted for 21 December.
So far, over 70 organisations have signed a petition calling for EU-wide whistleblower protection. Over 4000 individuals have also supported the initiative.
